CAF Reverses Decision, Keeps Africa Cup of Nations on Two-Year Cycle
The Confederation of African Football has abandoned plans to hold the Africa Cup of Nations every four years, opting to continue the tournament biennially.
According to BBC Sport, The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reversed its previous decision to hold the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) every four years. Instead, the tournament will continue to be held every two years as before.
This U-turn comes after CAF initially announced in December that AFCON would switch to a four-year cycle, aligning with other major international tournaments. However, the decision was reconsidered to maintain the traditional biennial schedule.
The Africa Cup of Nations remains one of the continent's most prestigious football competitions, and this decision ensures more frequent opportunities for national teams to compete at the highest level.
