Cricket Australia Faces $20m Revenue Loss from Two-Day Ashes Tests Amid Future Deficit Projections
Cricket Australia reports a significant financial hit from the two-day Ashes Tests last summer, with forecasts of continued losses despite a current surplus.
According to Cricket | The Guardian, Cricket Australia revealed that the two-day format of the Ashes Tests last summer resulted in a $20 million revenue loss, impacting the sport's financial health. This format change led to reduced interest and lower commercial returns compared to traditional longer matches.
Despite this setback, Cricket Australia posted an $82 million surplus for the 2025-26 season, boosted by strong broadcast deals, ticket sales, and commercial revenue linked to the men's Ashes series, which remains a key event in their four-year cycle.
Looking ahead, the governing body anticipates two years of financial deficits as it navigates challenges related to fan engagement and tour interest, signaling a cautious outlook for the sport's economic future.
